SIXTEEN players have been shortlisted to represent the country in the ICC T20 World Cup Africa ‘A’ subregional qualifier for the men’s tournament.
The tournament will take place from November 15 to November 26 in Kigali, Rwanda, and will be played in a round-robin format.
According to the Interim Selection Committee of Cricket Kenya (CK), this will be the first step toward the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
The tournament’s top two teams will compete in the regional final alongside Namibia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe alongside the winner and runner-up of the Africa subregional Qualifier B tournament from December 1-9.
The top two teams from the regional competition will advance to the World Cup, which will be hosted by the West Indies and the United States, respectively.
The selection panel has appointed a new captain and vice-captain to lead an integrated team of experienced and upcoming talent as the first step in a robust bid to get the game back on its feet.
The team has been training at the Nairobi Gymkhana for the last two weeks in preparation for the task ahead.
On the British island of St. Helena, the team will play their first match.
