Sonko arrested in Voi in ‘attempt to escape’

Nairobi Governor has been arrested in Voi with suspicions that he was escaping arrest over graft allegations amounting to Sh357million.

This follows the directive the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin haji to arrest the Governor over allegations of misappropriating public funds totaling to Sh357.4million.

Sonko will be charged in court alongside other county employees who are accused of conflict of intrest having,”facilitated and/or benefitted from the irregular procurement and payments amounting to Sh357, 390,299 million.

Ehics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are also seeking Nairobi County Secretary Peter Mbugua Kariuki, Head of Supply Chain Management Patrick Mwangangi, two Senior Clerical Officers and four members of the negotiation, Tender Opening and evaluation Committee.

Directors of Hardi Enterprises Limited and Toddy Civil engineering Limited are also included in the arrest for benefitting from funds acquired irregularly from county coffers.

Others include Web Tribe Limited, ROG security Limited and their directors who were contracted by Nairobi City Council Government for the delivery of various services criminally culpable for money laundering totaling to Sh24.1million.

The DPP has cautioned Sonko’s supporters against causing chaos saying such will not be tolerated citing that investigations have not been easy due to intimidation by sonko’s goons.
