Nairobi county has been without a deputy governor since the resignation of one Polycarp Igathe, who resigned from the office after disagreements with the Governor Mike Sonko.
This sets the stage for the third most powerful person in Nairobi, Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, Beatrice Elachi who could take over as acting governor if Mike Sonko suffers under the EACC.
Nairobi Governor has been arrested by the anti-corruption commission, over misuse of funds allocated to the county.
In a press briefing, the DPP has also ordered for the arrest of several county employees as well as other persons of interest for receiving monies and unlawful acquisition of public property, money, laundering and other economic crimes.
“Following comprehensive investigation by Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission(EACC) and upon receiving and independently reviewing the investigation file I have found sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution and I have therefore ordered for the immediate arrest and arraignment in court of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko,” DPP said
