Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko claims he has offered to help a 3-year-old boy who had his eyes gouged out in Marani, Kisii county, access specialized treatment abroad but is being blocked by people who accuse him of staging a publicity stunt.
Mr Sonko stated that his attempts to gain access to Baby Sagini in order to have him receive specialized treatment before flying him to China were unsuccessful because he was barred from meeting the child.
“We have been attempting in vain to contact the family of Baby Sagini in order to transfer him to a private hospital in Nairobi. We contacted a Chinese eye facility, Dennis Lam Eye Hospital, which performs successful eye implants, and they connected us with a Kenyan hospital to take the boy for a check-up and report, but we were unable to locate him,” said the former Nairobi County chief.
Mr Sonko stated that the boy has missed two appointments with an eye specialist in Nairobi due to his inability to see the child.
