Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been released on Sh30million bond with a surety of similar amount or a cash-bail of Sh15m.

The Anti-corruption Chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti has ordered him to stay away from the county offices and not to post anything involving the ongoing case on social media.

Sonko will be accompanied by investigating officers to pick his belongings in the county offices.

The Governor with his co-accused have been barred from travelling outside the country with the magistrate ordering that they deposit their passports in court.

His lawyers have requested that he be taken back to the hospital as he awaits to deposit his bail. They told the court that Sonko insisted on being present during the bail riling despite doctor’s instruction that he avoids movement.

The Governor was taken ill at the Kenyatta National Hospital and he is suffering from a broken rib allegedly caused by the dramatic arrest in Voi

However the magistrate questioned the lawyer on why they forced the accused person out of hospital.

In response lawyer Kipchumba Murkomen said that they did not want to take any chances especially with the allegations by the prosecution that he is flight risk and could run away.
