Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has renewed his bitter rivalry with current Nairobi Governor, Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of bullying the county government.
Sonko slammed the City Governor in an interview, saying he should be grateful that “Uhuru messed” his chances of being on the ballot because he would not have been Governor if he had run.
“Ni Uhuru, alileta ujuaji ya pesa nane. But ningekua kwa debe haungekua Governor wa Nairobi.”
Sonko has accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of orchestrating his deposition.
Several courts, including the Supreme Court, upheld his impeachment, rendering him unfit to run for any elective office.
Sonko’s feud with Sakaja began after he received “numerous complaints” from a group of leaders and City residents who he claimed were unhappy with the governor’s leadership style.
“Respect the great people of Nairobi. Na kung’olewa si lazima wananchi wakung’owe. We can use the power of the people to remove you from that seat,” he said.
He also warned the Governor of any attempt to disrespect the UDA party, President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua saying they will not allow that to happen.
“Tumekunyamazia sana because we respect you. But ukianza kudharau UDA, President and Deputy President, I am sure we are going to cause havoc. “
He urged the governor to consult with all stakeholders before making major decisions, arguing that ignoring key decisions made by the County Assembly is unacceptable.
