Davis Chirchir, the cabinet secretary for energy and petroleum, visited the Sosian Energy-built geothermal power plant in Menengai with PS Energy Alex Wachira.
The project’s objective is to build a line and substations to transport the first 35MW of energy produced by the MenengaiGeothermal Field.
The CS discussed the need to ease the strain on hydroelectric power during the facilities tour to assist cut the cost of power.
The CS also met with OrPower and Qlobleg, who were given contracts to each develop 35 MW from the MenegaiGeothermal resource. The two were encouraged by him to begin the essential development of the power plants.
Geothermal power is a renewable energy source that harnesses the heat from the Earth’s core to generate electricity.
It is a clean and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, which emit harmful greenhouse gases and contribute to climate change.
Geothermal power plants also have a small land footprint and can operate 24/7, providing a reliable source of energy.
