After returning home from self-imposed exile under the protection of his successor’s government, deposed Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa faced calls for his arrest on Saturday.
Rajapaksa fled the island nation in July, escorted by the military after a large crowd stormed his official residence following months of protests sparked by an unprecedented economic crisis.
The 73-year-old resigned from Singapore and spent weeks under virtual house arrest in a Bangkok hotel before returning late Friday.
Leaders of the protest campaign that brought down his government said Rajapaksa, who lost his presidential immunity after leaving office, should now face justice. She claims her daughter was pushed to death and has called for schools to handle issues differently.
