Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has firmly dismissed concerns about his leadership, asserting he will still be in office one year from now.
In an exclusive interview with the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Starmer pushed back against framing the upcoming May elections in Scotland, Wales, and England as a “referendum” on his government’s performance.

His defiant stance follows a difficult 2025, marked by slowing economic growth, poor poll ratings, and persistent speculation of an internal leadership challenge.
In his recent New Year’s Day address, the Prime Minister vowed to “defeat the decline and division offered by others” and insisted that 2026 would bring tangible, positive change to people’s lives.
