State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed has clarified that the re-launch of the Matu-Geta-Kahuruko-Ndunyu Njeru Road in Nyandarua county by President William Ruto recently was a fulfillment of the promise he made to the people in 2017 campaigns.
According to the spokesperson the 55-kilometre Road was denied funding to frustrate Ruto’s bid for the Presidency.
“During the ‘Handshake’ (2018-2022), many projects he launched were deliberately denied funding even though they were in the government’s programme. This was to frustrate the then Deputy President and his bid for the presidency. Today, it’s evident that the architects of these schemes that they thought would frustrate President Ruto, ultimately hurt the people, the economy and Kenya” he said.
He also said several other projects President Ruto launched when he was Deputy President were deliberately denied funding despite having been budgeted for.
He said the president was determined to clean up the mess and complete all stalled projects before embarking on new ones.
A tweet by the president declaring that he had inaugurated the Nyandarua project on Thursday caused a stir on social media after images of the 2018 launch surfaced.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also expressed similiar sentiments.
Responding to Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi on Twitter he said “Mheshimiwa, we are restarting all the road projects that were abandoned by the Handshake administration especially those abandoned because the then DP Ruto launched them,”.
