Robinson Masinde, the top student at Mupeli Primary School in Kanduyi constituency, Bungoma county, with 405 marks in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), has repeated class eight after failing to raise fees to join Kabyanga High School.
According to the school’s headteacher, Boas Ikomoli, the student and his family applied for the Equity Bank Elimu scholarship as well as the KCB scholarship.
However, Masinde was not considered in either case.
Ikomoli stated that he received the boy back with great shock, noting that his situation may demoralise many students at the school because he performed exemplary well.
His housewife mother, Everline Makandayi, and his stepfather, who is a boda boda operator, both stated that they applied for the constituency fund scholarship but were late in submitting their applications.
The family is now appealing to well-wishers, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, to come forward and assist the poor boy in gaining admission to the prestigious school in order for him to pursue his dream of becoming a neurosurgeon in the future.
