Students applaud after KeNHA opens vital footbridge on Thika Road

Students and motorists have expresed their satisfaction following the opening of a key installation on the Mega Thika Highway that would alleviate lengthy traffic jams and accidents along the busy road. – By Gerald Gekara.

The footbridge located at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies was opened to the public after the completion of its construction.

The bridge will aid pedestrians crossing headed to Mathare North and the Kenya College of Accountancy. 

The bridge that consists of a ramp and a fleet of stairs is set to clear off major traffic that has for long paralysed traffic dur to the pedestrian crossing, and speed bumps in the area.

Residents expressed their satisfaction, satying the bridge will save more than 400 lives that were lost annually due to accidents.

“There used to be more than 5 deaths in a day here, but since the bridge was opened a day has passed without someone getting hit by a vehicle. To us this is a miracle.” said one Simon Kunga.

While announcing the opening KeNHA Director General Eng. Peter Mindinia said pedestrian safety is paramout, equally as motorists are ensured of their safety.

“We want to ensure the safety and comfort of pedestrians at all our facilities”, Mundinia said.

The bridge is part of the infrastructure layout for the Rapid Bus Transport System(BRT).

The express buses, part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Transport improvement Authority(NaMMATA). 

Mundinia said KeNHA has enhanced road maintenance countrywide to ensure seamless connections.
