Students Beat Parents For Disrupting Learning At Otok Secondary School

The students beat up a group of parents who raided and stormed the school in an attempt to evict their newly appointed principal, Jactone Ogaga.

On Thursday, students at Otok Mixed Secondary School in Karachuonyo constituency caned and chased some parents away for allegedly attacking their school principal.

The students beat up a group of parents who raided and stormed the school in an attempt to evict their newly appointed principal, Jactone Ogaga.

They attacked the parents with wooden rods and stones, accusing them of causing chaos and interfering with their studies.

According to reports, the parents did not want Ogaga to teach or manage the school.

It is unclear why the parents were opposed to the new principal.

After being introduced to the school on Thursday, Ogaga was to officially begin his duties.

The drama began when some parents entered the gate and began shouting insults at Ogaga.

Following the incident, Ogaga stated that students emerged from their classrooms when some parents began hurling insults.
During the fracas, the deputy principal got injured after being hit with a stone.

“Some angry students picked wooden rods and beat them. The parents were chased to about 2km from the school,” Ogaga said.

The deputy principal is still undergoing medication at a nearby health facility.

Students who spoke to journalists complained that some parents do not want the school to progress.

“They always want good teachers to get transferred but for us, we want to get taught and excel in academics,” a student said.

They accused the parents of forcefully gaining entry into the school.

Rachuonyo North sub-county police commander Lydia Parteiyie said they have arrested three parents.

“We’re interrogating the suspects to establish the reasons why they wanted to eject the principal,” Parteiye said.
