Sudi, Billionaire ‘Detained’ At Airport

Oscar Sudi, a Kapsaret MP, and two foreigners were temporarily detained at Wilson Airport on Wednesday morning after officials insisted on examining their luggage.

Sudi was accompanied by Lazarus Nyalandu, a notorious Tanzanian politician and former Minister of Natural Resources, and Michael Spencer, a British businessman.

Spencer is the chairman of Intercapital Private Group Ltd and a politician.

According to a passenger manifest obtained by People Daily, the trio flew from Eldoret to Nairobi on a Pilatus PC-12 private plane, tail registration 5Y SRI, owned by Sirai Air but operated by East African Air Charters Limited, on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

On Tuesday afternoon, the jet flew from Nairobi to Eldoret, arriving at the airport at 4 p.m.

The airport officials stayed firm, but Sudi persisted, resulting in a confrontation.

After realizing he was running late for Parliament, Sudi decided to go through the standard arrival and screening processes.

Sudi was involved in an almost identical fight at the same airport in August last year when Turkish businessman Harun Aydin was detained and deported over money-laundering links and illegal transit into and out of Kenya.

Aydin was flying from Uganda at the time and was part of Deputy President William Ruto’s group, which had been scheduled to fly to Entebbe only a few days before.

Senior security officers then claimed that Ruto had neglected to obtain the President’s permission to travel, as required by the protocol.
