Honor Climate Finance Agreements — Kenya Tells Rich Nations

Kenya has challenged developed countries to honor their climate change commitments to developing countries.

PS Susan Mang’eni of the State Department for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development said developed countries should keep their promises on ODA and climate financing.

“At the same time, developing countries should make every effort to meet their obligations under the Addis Ababa Action Agenda,” she said.

“Kenya strongly believes that it is past time to engage in a paradigm shift and begin viewing African development from opportunities rather than vulnerabilities.”

The Addis Ababa Action Agenda is a global framework for aligning financing flows and policies with economic, social, and environmental priorities.

She made the remarks at the United Nations in New York during the 2023 Economic and Social Council Financing for Development Forum General Debate.

According to the PS, the world is becoming increasingly devastated by crises such as armed conflict and climate change insecurity, which includes food and water shortages.

“The impact of these crises may be global in nature, but developing nations, particularly in Africa and the Global South generally, continue to bear the brunt,” she said.
