Suspect Arrested, 156 Kg of Elephant Tusks Worth Ksh.15.6M Recovered

A man was charged yesterday in a Mariakani court with violating the 2013 Wildlife Conservation and Management Act by possessing 156 kg of elephant tusks valued Ksh.15.6 million.

The suspect was apprehended while riding a motorcycle while transporting the tusks in a canvas bag. Ibrahim Tsimba was also accused by the prosecution, through Jethron Okumu, SPC, of violating a legal requirement and dealing with a wildlife trophy without a licence.

The claimed crimes were allegedly perpetrated on July 1, 2023, at around 13:45 hrs., at Egu ‘B’ Village, Taru Location, Samburu Sub County, within Kwale County. The other alleged offender was not present in court.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the counts upon which the court directed that he be detained pending a pre-bail report. The matter will be mentioned on 17th July 2023.
