A suspected drug trafficker is in police custody after officers in Bomet County found him with eight bags containing approximately 1,600 rolls of cannabis sativa during an operation on Sunday.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said that Bernard Marwa, 35, was arrested after a police chase when he defied orders at a traffic stop along the Silibwet–Bomet road.

“The chase came to an abrupt end when the vehicle reached a narrow road, forcing the occupants to abandon it and flee on foot,” DCI noted. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the contraband and was taken in custody and the car has been impounded.

Meanwhile a manhunt has been launched for 2 suspects who escaped during the pursuit.

Police authorities have been conducting a heightened nationwide crackdown on the sale of illegal substances, vowing to tame the vice.
