Coronavirus virus cases in Tanzania continue to increase at an alarming rate despite the government not issuing enough stringent measures on movement to combat the disease – By Prudence Wanza.
Yesterday the country’s ministry of health announced 87 new positive cases raising the toll to 257.
The numbers in Tanzania have risen from 147 to 257 in less than three days. The new cases were confirmed between April 17 to April 20, 2020.
Among those infected by the disease is a Tanzanian member of Parliament whose name is yet to be revealed, but the Deputy Speaker Tulia Ackson said the MP had traveled to Dar es Salaam which is the epicenter of the country’s infections.
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s capital, leads with 33 cases while the rest are spread across Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Dodoma, Manyara, Pwani, Tanga and Mwanza among other areas.
So far 10 people have lost their lives to the disease while 11 have recovered.
Some of the measures Tanzania has put in place include the closure of all schools and ban on social gatherings however churches are still being allowed to congregate despite the high risk.
Movement is still allowed in and out of different regions and towns even as the numbers continue to rise.
