Tenants In Ruiru Apartment Evacuated As Cracks Emerge

Tenants at a five-story building in Ruiru town were forced to leave on Sunday when cracks appeared in the unit.

After receiving complaints from the National Construction Authority (NCA) and the Ruiru OCPD that a home had developed cracks, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi supervised the operations, accompanied by Kiambu County Firefighters.

In the aftermath of two home disasters in Kirigiti and Ruaka that killed seven people, the county leader stated the Ruiru House had teetered after its columns split and were leaning on a neighbouring house whose inhabitants had also been urged to leave.

Meanwhile, Governor Wamatangi was propped up on one of the fire trucks, equipped with a microphone, asking inhabitants to leave the premises as quickly as possible.

“Wenye mko kwa hiyo nyumba tunawapatia 45 minutes mkuwe mmetoa kila kitu ….” Governor Wamatangi told the residents via a PA system on Sunday.
