Three terror suspects who shocked the nation after escaping from a fortified prison, have been sentenced to 15 more months.
On November 14, 2021, the three are accused of fleeing from Kamiti maximum jail.
The three allegedly fled through a drill hole dug with a metal bar and nails in cell number six, according to the court. They covered the hole with a piece of the mattress.
They also fashioned an improvised climbing device by cutting the blanket into pieces with a razor blade, tying it together, and using it to scale the wall.
A chisel, two razor blades, and two nails were supplied by the prosecution as proof of what they used to get out of prison.
‘Turned’ Wardens
Abdalla told the court that if he had the chance, he would escape prison again because it would just add two years to his 30-year term.
He stated, “I don’t want to leave prison because the ATPU will abduct and murder me.”
They are afraid of returning to Kamiti jail, according to Abdalla, because other wardens who helped them escape have not been charged.
Musharaf Abdalla, one of the detainees, said the prosecution had shown how they fled from Kamiti maximum prison, but he hadn’t seen a pair of scissors and an extra metal hook they used, as well as two rims of plain paper they used to cover the wall and bar soap.
According to court documents, investigations are still ongoing on the aforementioned wardens who aided the escape.
As for the three, the court sentenced them to serve a jailterm at an undisclosed prison facility that is as highly guarded as Kamiti.
