Tharaka Nithi Police Officer Drives Off With Dead Body

On Saturday, August 7, police officers in Tharaka Nithi set up a roadblock to arrest a colleague who drove away in a police car containing a dead body.

Meshack Simiyu, a police constable assigned to the Marimanti Police Post, drove away from the station with a police car after the driver left the engine running during a brief stop.

Simuyu, who was in the passenger seat with the OCS, had been rescued from mob justice in Materi center previously.

The OCS was to be dropped off at the police station, and the body was to be escorted to Marimati Level Five Hospital.

The driver and the OCS exited the vehicle when they arrived at the police station.

The two, who needed to make a quick call, left the car running with Simuyu still inside.
Officers began following Simiyu in private vehicles after they realized he had driven away with the vehicle.

They also set up an emergency roadblock in order to apprehend the fleeing officer. They eventually tracked down the police constable at the Ishiara Police Station.

“The driver also alighted and went for a short call leaving the engine running since it had covered many kilometers and left P.C Simiyu inside the vehicle who happened to drive away at a high speed heading to an unknown direction,” a police statement read in part.

“Simiyu was not in the appropriate frame of mind when he did the deed,” the police statement added.
