Tharaka Nithi: Two Dead After Bodaboda Collides With Car Ferrying Miraa

A bodaboda rider and his passenger were killed early Monday morning after their motorcycle collided with a pick-up ferrying miraa at Naka River along the Meru-Nairobi Highway in Tharaka Nithi County.

According to Tharaka Nithi County Emergency and Rescue Team Manager Alex Mugambi, the bodaboda was heading towards Chuka town.

He stated that the rider died on the spot, while the passenger was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chuka County Referral Hospital.

“We lost a bodaboda operator and his passenger early in the morning following a collision with a miraa pick-up and the bodies are at Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary,” Mr. Mugambi said.

He added that the driver of the pick-up presented himself at a nearby police station following the 2 a.m. accident.

Mr Mugambi stated that motorcycle accidents are common in the region and urged riders and other motorists to be cautious on the road.

Although accidents involving miraa vehicles are uncommon, he claims that Probox vehicles transporting muguka are wreaking havoc on the highway. He urged drivers to obey traffic laws in order to reduce road fatalities.
