Thieves disguised as Matatu crew arrested in Nairobi

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have put robbers masquerading as matatu drivers and conductors on notice. – By Gerald Gekara

This is after five robbery-with-violence suspects purporting to be PSV operators were last night arrested within Nairobi.

In a sweep conducted by officers based at Buruburu, Samuel Maina Wanyoike, Joseph Wainana Gitau, Felix Otieno, Dennis Omondi Otieno were arrested aboard M/V Reg. No. KBK 624 F.

According to the police, the matatu was captured on CCTV footage as it was being persued by a group of motorcycle riders.

The riders claimed the occupants had lured and violently robbed a man, who later sought the riders’ assistance.

While the suspects were being booked in the Occurrence Book, the victim reported to the station, positively identified them and narrated his ordeal.
