Thieving Househelp Arrested Over Theft Of Sh2.2 Million

A 29-year-old househelp who staged a daring heist, vanishing with her employer’s Sh2.2 million, has finally been nabbed after an intense manhunt.

Fleviar Muhonja Anaya pulled off the betrayal on March 16, 2025, when she was left alone at her employer’s home.

Hours later, a security guard noticed her sneaking out with a large carrier bag. When questioned, she casually claimed she was running an errand for her boss.

Suspicions arose when the employer tried to call her, only to find her phone switched off. Rushing back home, she was met with the horrifying discovery—her cash stash had vanished along with the seemingly trustworthy maid.

Detectives from DCI Nairobi, alongside the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, launched a countrywide search. Their efforts bore fruit when they tracked Muhonja down in Malava, Kakamega County.

Under interrogation, the runaway househelp led officers to Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Sh700,000 was recovered from her grandmother’s house.

The operation continued to Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where detectives found expensive chain links purchased with the stolen loot. Another Sh800,000 was later retrieved from her rented house in South B, Nairobi.

Fleviar is in police custody and is set to be arraigned in court
