Kenya has confirmed 713 more COVID-19 infections, signalling what has now come to be known as the third wave. – By Gerald Gekara.
The cases were recorded from the a sample of 5,230 in the last 24 hours.
While addressing the press, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe confirmed the COVID-19 cases in the country have hit 110,356.
In terms of county distribution, Nairobi has 443 cases, Turkana 45, Kiambu 42, Nakuru 36, Meru 24, Kajiado 13, Machakos 13, Kisii 12, Uasin Gishu 10, Kisumu 9, Garissa 9, Siaya 8, Kilifi 7, Makueni 7, Busia 7, Kericho 5, Nyandarua 4, Kakamega 3, Taita Taveta 3, while Kitui, Mombasa, Murang’a, Vihiga had 2 cases each.
Nyeri, Bungoma , Embu, Kirinyaga and Kwale counties recorded one case each.
The total number of recoveries has risen to 87,903 after 167 patients recovered in the last 24 hours.
A total of 12 new fatalities pushed the death toll from the virus to 1,898.
The new infections point at a 14% positivity rate, with both the Ministry and CoG urging Kenyans to extra careful as the country navigates through a third wave.
CoG chairman Governor Martin Wambora who also attended the presser, urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to issue a 30-day ban on all political gatherings.
Meanwhile, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi confirmed that a total of 4,000 people have been vaccinated against the virus. More excercises on the same have been launched in different parts of the country.
