Third witness in trial of former cop Rashid Ahmed murder case testifies

The murder trial against former Eastleigh-based Police Ahmed Rashid proceeded today with the third prosecution witnesses taking to the stand and explaining events of the sad day when two lads in Eastleigh allegedly met their untimely death in the hands of a police officer.

The accused police officer Rashid was in April 2023 charged with the murder of two boys- Jamal Mohammed and Mohammed Dhair Kheri- on March 31, 2017, at Amal Plaza in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

According to state prosecutor Allan Mulama, the ODPP has a total 25 witnesses who will be testfying in the case in a bit to prove their case against the accused cop.

During his testimony, Ramadan Karani, the grandfather of one of the slain boys told the court that he heard about his grandson’s death while in Tana River county.

He narrated to the court how he got wind of the news and of his ordeal in the days to follow.

He told Kibera High Court Judge Diana Kavedza that he was watching the news and saw the shooting incident.

He said he saw the young man who was reported to have been shot dead and realised it was his grandchild Jamal Mohamed, who worked as a casual labourer in the Eastleigh neighborhood of the city.

Karani said the victim had about seven bullet wounds on his head.

The grandfather asked the court to consider the pain and agony the family has suffered following the murder of their kin when delivering judgment.
