At least three people have died following a massive Russian attack across Ukraine on Monday, which targeted key energy infrastructure and caused widespread power and water supply disruptions.

Explosions were reported in multiple cities, including Kyiv, as over half of the country’s regions came under assault.

The air raids, involving missiles and drones, began overnight and continued into the morning, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay in shelters.

Fatalities were reported in Zaporizhzhia, Lutsk, and the Dnipropetrovsk region. The attacks left significant damage, with homes destroyed and infrastructure facilities hit.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed that 15 regions were targeted, with the primary focus on energy facilities.

Emergency blackouts were imposed across the country as energy company DTEK worked to restore power.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid have been a recurring strategy, causing frequent blackouts.

President Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that half of Ukraine’s electricity-generating capacity had been destroyed by Russian strikes.

Amid the ongoing conflict, Ukraine continues to seek long-range weapons from its allies to counter the sustained assaults on its critical infrastructure.
