Three people were injured on Friday in Marsabit County by an unknown assailant.
At least eight people have been killed in the area in the last three weeks in the area, officials said.
The three, an old man, woman, and child are recuperating in Marsabit Referral Hospital after they sustained gunshot wounds.
Marsabit Deputy County Commissioner David Saruni confirmed the incident which occurred in Kiwanja Denge area on Friday at around 4.00 pm. The two assailants escaped using a motorcycle.
Saruni said security officers were still pursuing the two attackers who escaped on a motorcycle en route to Dakabaricha area. “We have beefed up security in the area as we urge leaders to play a role in calming tension here,” he said.
After the attack, there was tension in Marsabit town and shops had closed by 6.00 pm.
Tension has been high in the area in the last months amid calls to address violence there.
Six people were on November 5 killed in an attack believed to be an act of revenge in Badassa, about 15 kilometers from Marsabit Town as the community decried an increase in violence.
Last week, a section of MPs from Northern Kenya has condemned the ongoing skirmishes in Marsabit county amid escalating clashes in the expansive county.
The leaders appealed for government intervention to bring to an end the inter-clan conflicts that scores of people killed.
They called on stakeholders including local leaders, to preach peace among warring sides to calm the clashes and restore peace.
