Kerugoya township in Kirinyaga County was the scene of a major wildlife crime bust after three suspects were arrested in a multi-agency security operation.

The operation, carried out jointly by officers from the National Police Service (NPS) and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), led to the recovery of elephant tusks believed to have been destined for the illegal trophy trade.

The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court.

In a statement, the NPS underscored that wildlife crimes are grave offences that endanger Kenya’s rich biodiversity and threaten the survival of species such as elephants.

The Service also commended the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the country’s conservation heritage.

Authorities assured the public of continued vigilance in disrupting criminal networks involved in poaching and trophy trafficking.
