Thunder Sweep KPA to Retain Men’s Basketball Premier League Title

Nairobi City Thunder successfully defended their Kenya National Men’s Basketball Premier League crown after completing a 3-0 finals sweep against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) on Saturday night.

Thunder sealed the championship in emphatic fashion with an 80-43 victory in Game Three at the Nyayo Gymnasium. The win followed back-to-back triumphs in Mombasa last week, ensuring the champions closed the series unbeaten.

From the opening whistle, Thunder set the tone, racing to a commanding 26-7 lead in the first quarter. KPA steadied briefly in the second, holding the champions to a 12-12 draw, but Thunder’s depth proved decisive. They pulled away with a 21-16 third quarter before sealing the win with a dominant 21-8 final period.

The result underlined Thunder’s consistency and control throughout the finals, confirming their status as the dominant force in Kenyan men’s basketball.

Meanwhile, KPA celebrated success in the women’s Premier League after their ladies’ side swept Zetech Sparks 3-0 to reclaim the crown.

The Dockers overcame Sparks 59-51 in Game Three at Nyayo despite a slow start, trailing 14-18 after the opening quarter. However, they bounced back with strong second and third quarters (14-11 and 15-9) before sealing victory with a 16-13 final period.

The win capped a dominant postseason run for KPA Ladies, underlining their resilience and experience on the big stage.
