Tom Okwach’s body was recovered from the Abimbo Gold Mine in Bondo seven months after the mine caved in, trapping him and nine other miners.
He is the second fatality since the December 8 incident, in which eight miners were rescued alive and one was found dead.
The gold diggers were trapped nearly 20 feet from the mining chambers’ entrance.
The mine collapsed on December 2, 2016, killing one miner and rescuing seven others days later.
Volunteers who worked tirelessly to retrieve their colleagues were forced to abandon their efforts due to soil deterioration.
