Traffic Cameras to be Intalled to Capture Traffic Offenders, Murkomen Says

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has put traffic offenders on notice, saying the government plans to progressively install traffic cameras to capture and apprehend those breaking rules.

“We will start on Mombasa highway, Nakuru and Isebania. We will capture those overspeeding and involved in other traffic offences and administer instant enforcement,” he said.

Murkomen spoke on Saturday during a thanksgiving service organised by 40 churches in Kakamega.

The CS also called for personal responsibility to ensure road safety, adding that passengers should not knowingly board vehicles being driven by inebriated drivers.

“You also have a responsibility as a passenger to ensure you are not entering an overloaded vehicle or one that is being driven by someone under the influence,” he said.

Last year, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said the government would introduce cameras to reduce the number of traffic police officers.
