Tragic Dispute Over Ancestral Land Claims Life in Siaya

A 55-year-old man has died while two of his brothers were seriously injured after a fight erupted over a disagreement on their ancestral land at Akuom village in Alego Usonga, Siaya County.

Confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said Maurice Akelo Oduol died after he sustained multiple cuts on his head.

His body was found lying in a pool of blood.

Kimaiyo established that the three Oduol brothers, Maurice Akelo (deceased), Marcus Omondi (37), and Camillus Odhiambo (34), disagreed about their ancestral land.

Further, he said the disagreement escalated into a fight where Maurice sustained multiple cuts on the head and succumbed to the injuries.

He said that in the event, Marcus sustained a deep cut on his left arm while Camillus sustained a deep cut on the forehead.

Akelo’s body was taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital for preservation, awaiting autopsy, while the other two brothers are also undergoing treatment at the same facility.

He stated that the two brothers would be arraigned in court to face murder charges once they have recovered, adding that two machetes were recovered from the scene.
