Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has urged transporters to operate within the stipulated axle limits.Â
In a meeting with Capacity Movers SACCO, weigh bridge officials in Matuu were sensitized on the judicial process that accompanies the breaking of the key law.
“We have fines for offenders who ignore the axle load limits. But if you become a serial offender, we will apply for permission to withdraw your license. We, therefore, want to avoid this by asking you to observe the axle load limits.”
The police have also urged drivers to cooperate with axle-load officials in order to foster synergy and avoid unnecessary confrontation.
Peter Maina, a transporter with over 15 years on the tarmac, asked his fellow drivers to observe the limits, as this would significantly lower the costs of truck maintenance.
“I have over the years realised that overloading damages trucks. I end up spending a lot of time on repairs.”
