The first award in this year’s Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards went to a photograph of a lion cub falling down a tree in the Serengeti.
According to professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, who co-founded the awards in 2015, Jennifer Hadley’s shot beat nearly 5,000 entrants from over 85 nations.
The prizes are intended to emphasize the lighter side of wildlife photography.
Ms. Hadley stated that she was in Tanzania at the time when she captured the lion cub losing its grip and falling out of the tree.
Other winners include a photograph taken in South Africa showing a hippopotamus seeming to bite a heron perched on the back of another hippopotamus.
Another image shows a close-up of two triggerfish swimming in the Azores.
Another winning image features a sassy penguin on the Falkland Islands showing his fin to another penguin.
Another image shows a spotted owl in India winking at the camera.
