TSC To Recruit Over 35,000 Teachers In 2023

The employer said in a notice distributed on Friday that it has vacancies for 9,000 permanent and pensionable secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school tutors. TSC will also hire 21,550 teacher interns for junior secondary schools and 4,000 for primary schools.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has advertised 35,550 jobs for primary and junior secondary school teachers.

The employer said in a notice distributed on Friday that it has vacancies for 9,000 permanent and pensionable secondary school teachers and 1,000 primary school tutors. TSC will also hire 21,550 teacher interns for junior secondary schools and 4,000 for primary schools.

“Successful candidates will be posted to any primary or junior secondary school in the county where they were interviewed or in any part of the country where the vacancy exists,” the TSC notice states.

According to the notice,”Successful candidates for Junior Secondary Secondary Schools will be required to teach various learning areas under the Junior Secondary Curriculum,”

TSC had previously stated that it would prioritize the recruitment of junior secondary teachers in the January mass recruitment.

President William Ruto’s education taskforce recommended hiring 30,000 new teachers for junior secondary schools, citing a nationwide shortage of tutors.

According to the government, all Grade 6 students who completed their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) this month will transfer to junior secondary schools housed in existing primary schools.
