Turkana Central MP Joseph Namuar Apoligises For Voting YES On Finance Bill 2024

Turkana Central MP Joseph Namuar has apologized to his constituents for voting in favor of the now-withdrawn Finance Bill 2024.

Namuar, who is also a strong affiliate of the United Democratic Party (UDA), said President William Ruto’s decision to refuse to sign the bill has paved the way for dialogue.

Additionally, he apologized to his constituents after voting in favor of the approval of the bill that sparked violent protests and caused the deaths of protesters.

“I commend you for the leadership you have exhibited today to show Kenyans that you can listen to their views. If there is any way we may have acted wrongly for those of us who voted YES, we apologize,” he said.

“Also as (President Ruto’s) foot soldiers, we apologize on his behalf.”

On Wednesday, President Ruto bowed to mounting pressure and announced he would not approve the ugly bill after nationwide protests intensified and demonstrators even stormed Parliament in the capital.

The violation came just minutes after lawmakers voted 195-106 in favor of the tax bill that protesters say will exacerbate the cost of living with proposed punitive taxes in place.

Meanwhile, protesters have threatened to march to State House, today, Thursday the 27th, to express their discontent with President Ruto’s government.

The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) have begun moving their armed trucks and tanks into Nairobi in what the government says is to help police officers remain calm. The main roads leading to Government House have been heavily blocked.
