Two Arrested in Marsabit Over Illegal Abortion Case

The woman, identified as Morme Wario, is accused of procuring the abortion, while the man, Haron Muthuri, is alleged to have carried out the procedure while operating an unregistered clinic.

Police in Marsabit have arrested a 23 year old woman and a 50 year old man in connection with an alleged illegal abortion, following the discovery of a foetus in Malkalakore village, Drib-Gombo area.

The woman, identified as Morme Wario, is accused of procuring the abortion, while the man, Haron Muthuri, is alleged to have carried out the procedure while operating an unregistered clinic.

The arrests followed a report by residents who found a male foetus, believed to be about six months old, wrapped in clothing and abandoned in the village.

Officers responded to the scene, recovered the body and transferred it to Marsabit Referral Mortuary for preservation.

Investigators later traced Wario after noting that she had recently been visibly pregnant but was no longer so.

During questioning, she admitted to being the mother of the foetus and led officers to the premises where the procedure was allegedly performed.

At the facility, police found Muthuri practicing without the required medical registration.

Officers recovered various drugs and surgical equipment during a search of the clinic.

Wario was taken to Marsabit Referral Hospital for medical attention before being escorted, together with Muthuri, to Marsabit Police Station.

Both suspects remain in custody pending arraignment.
