Two Dead After Plane As Aircraft Crashes In Tsavo National Park

    Two people died on Thursday, December 8 after a light aircraft crashed at Huri area in Tsavo National Park.

    The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) confirmed that the aircraft crashed in the Kone area along the Tiva in Tsavo East National Park on Thursday morning.

    According to a press release from KWS, the plane, the plane, a Cessna 185 with the registration number 5Y-DHS, belonged to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) and crashed around 7.15 a.m. while on patrol in Huri, the park’s northeastern boundary.

    “Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has learned with deep sorrow about a fixed wing aircraft crash that occurred in Kone area along the Tiva in Tsavo East National Park, this morning,” KWS said.

    A father and his son, whose names have not been released, are believed to be among the deceased.

    “KWS wishes to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the deceased.”

    The plane was involved in a variety of wildlife operations, including fighting bushfires and conducting censuses. It was also critical for efforts to combat rhino horn, ivory, and bushmeat poaching, as well as addressing broader threats to wildlife and habitats.

    KWS and DSWT teams are on the scene investigating the cause of the crash.
