Two Gangsters Shot Dead, Firearms, Ksh 1.13M Recovered

Two armed robbers have been shot dead and two assault rifles recovered following a fierce shootout on Sunday morning in Kigumo, Murang’a county.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the robbers are alleged to have on Saturday staged a robbery at Unaitas SACCO Mununga branch, within Kigumo town, where they made away with KSh1.13 million after disarming a police officer and taking possession of his G3 rifle. 

The marauding gang of six that has been on the police radar had on February 25, snatched an AK-47 rifle loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition from a police officer on patrol within Muthithi area, which is believed to have been used in Saturday’s robbery incident. 

“In a joint operation by officers from Murang’a county backed up by an elite team from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, the officers combed Kinyona forest before coming across the two who challenged them to a duel,” the DCI said.

The officers exchanged fire with the thugs killing the two on the spot.

The two police rifles were recovered following the onslaught and a bag containing Sh1.13 Million shillings stolen from UNAITAS Sacco was also recovered.

The bodies were taken to Murang’a Level Five Hospital mortuary awaiting identification as a manhunt for the rest of the suspects ensue.
