Following the death of two persons Saturday night, residents in Kimwanga village, West Bukusu ward, Bungoma county, awoke to a depressing mood.
One person died on the scene, and the other died while being treated at a private hospital in Bungoma town.
One of the fatalities was a security guard at a nearby bar, and the other was the principal of Masielo Primary School.
Kamaeti OCPD Aggrey Makomere condemned the incident and asked the residents to be vigilant and report suspicious individuals to police.
Makomere said he received a distress call at 4 am from the caretaker of the Vuta Pumzi bar stating that a security guard had been killed and the body left in a pool of blood.
“Immediately I received the call I moved very first with my private vehicle to come and see what has really happened. I found the teacher lying helpless as the watchman was in a pool of blood,” Makomere said.
He said that he took an initiative and rushed the teacher to hospital in Bungoma town but he was later pronounced death.
The police boss, however, said police officers in Bumula are alert to ensure that security is beefed up ahead of Tuesday’s elections.
The OCPD noted that the assailants didn’t take anything from the bar apart from his phones.
“I think this is a young gang that has developed in Kimaeti, they escaped with the phones to interfere with investigations,” he said.
Area MCA Sospeter Nyongesa asked relevant authorities to move with speed and investigate the matter. He urged residents to be careful especially during this election season.
“I want to ask the police officers to do a speedy interrogation and identity the killers. This is very unfortunate,” Nyongesa said.
