Two Sent To Jail For Over Untaxed Apple Juice

Two men, a driver and a tout have been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges of being in possession of excisable goods without KRA stamps.


Isiah Kuria and Gilbert Kimani were arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo on Friday morning.


According to the police report seen by Uzalendo News, a tip by the public on November 11, 2021, led the police intelligence to a KBS garage where a lorry was being loaded with Azam energy drinks and Apple punch juice with a worth of Ksh 358,082.


The duo would later be arrested that same day after the lorry was intercepted along General Wariunge Road and escorted to Capitol Hill Police Station.


The court heard that the two were loading the professed goods belonging to a broker who was is yet to be identified.

They further stated that they were remorseful and asked for leniency in sentencing.

They were however slapped with Ksh 50,000 each with a 6 months imprisonment alternative.
