Tragedy struck Ramba Boys High School in Rarieda after a septic tank collapsed, killing two Form Four students on Friday evening.
The incident occurred at around 6:00 pm when several students were standing on top of the septic tank, which suddenly caved in.
According to a junior teacher, most students managed to escape unharmed, while two sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, two others sank into the tank and lost their lives.
Police officers and Kenya Red Cross officials rushed to the scene and worked overnight to retrieve the bodies.
Siaya Governor James Orengo has expressed deep condolences to the school community and assured that his administration remains committed to ensuring the safety of learners across the county.
“This is a heartbreaking loss. We urge everyone to remain calm as investigations into the incident continue,” Orengo stated in a press release.
Authorities are now investigating the cause of the collapse to prevent future tragedies.
