An Uber driver was on Friday arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts on charges of personation and identity fraud following her arrest at the National Bank of Kenya’s Mountain Mall branch.
Emily Wanjiku Kimani is facing two counts, personation contrary to Section 382(1) as read with Section 36 of the Penal Code, and unlawful possession of a Kenyan national identity card contrary to Section 14(1) of the Registration of Persons Act.
According to the charge sheet, Kimani allegedly presented herself as Naomi Mueni Kithuka to a bank sales executive, Wilkister Ziyeri, on August 21, 2025, with intent to defraud. She was also accused of being in possession of Mueni’s national identity card, which she claimed was hers and had been legitimately issued.
Police said she was arrested after spending a considerable amount of time at the bank, raising suspicion before the matter was reported.
Kimani, however, denied the charges, telling the court that she works as an Uber driver and had been hired by an unknown client to deliver a parcel. She claimed she did not know the client, who paid her in cash, and insisted she had no fraudulent intent.
The magistrate released her on cash bail of Ksh 200,000. The case will be mentioned on a later date.
