UDA Supporters are set to lead peaceful demonstrations outside the homes of Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his allies.
According to a notice by Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala, UDA plans to counter Raila Odinga’s protests by peacefully gathering outside the homes of Raila, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa.
Malala said the demos will be against the planned anti-government protests that may lead to the destruction of property, and loss of lives.
Raila Odinga is set to lead a massive protest to President William Ruto’s official residence on Monday, 20th March 2023.
This comes as the police deny protest permission due to late notification, making tomorrow’s protests illegal.
President Ruto stated that Odinga has no legitimate reason to call for protests and that the demonstrations are simply a means for him to advance his political agenda of getting a piece of the government.
“Raila Odinga has no reason at all to call for protests. The protests are meant to destroy people’s property. That’s his philosophy, that’s how he plays his politics. We will not accept that,” he said.
Despite his criticisms of Odinga, President Ruto stated that he is willing to meet with any leader in a constitutional and legal manner to discuss the future of the country. He stated that he was unwilling to participate in anarchy or be threatened with ultimatums.
