The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has written to President Uhuru Kenyatta to express its displeasure with alleged state-sponsored violence during its election campaigns.

The letter was signed by the party’s Secretary-General Veronica Maina and Chairman Johnson Muthama on January 18, 2022.

It is also copied to the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, the DPP Noordin Haji, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission Wafula Chebukati, the US, EU, and UK envoys, and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor (ICC).

The occurrences are sustained, according to UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina, by official “inaction and connivance” by the state.

This was expressed by Maina in reference to the Jacaranda chaos.

Deputy President William Ruto’s Jacaranda rally was disrupted by hooliganism over the weekend, with boisterous youngsters throwing stones at the event.

The DP’s meeting was not disrupted by the event, and the demonstration proceeded as planned.

“It has become abundantly evident that the thugs were encouraged and assisted to prevent the event from occurring in accordance with a strict bedroom policy of employing violence,” Maina stated.

Six incidents in Busia, Kisii, Taita Taveta, and Murang’a Kondele in Kisumu, all visited by Deputy President William Ruto, are mentioned in the letter, and they want them investigated and action taken.
