Uganda Greenlights Investigations Into Sakaja’s Degree

The Ugandan High Court has granted permission to the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) to investigate Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja’s Teams University degree certificate.

The university had previously filed a lawsuit to prevent the NCHE from investigating claims that Sakaja was a student there.

The Teams University application was dismissed by Ugandan High Court Deputy Registrar Jamson Karemani.

Karemani stated that he trusted NCHE’s submission and that no investigation was underway.

“I do believe in NCHE’s submissions that indeed the investigations were stopped and at the moment there is no ongoing investigations,” Karemani said.

The registrar also stated that NCHE had ceased investigations following an earlier court order, and that Uganda’s Inspector General of Police had taken over the investigation.

Teams University made an application in court to bar NCHE from investigating whether Sakaja was a student of that institution at any point in time.

This latest development rocks Sakaja’s bid to become Nairobi’s next governor.

Sakaja has been in and out of court, fighting petitions to remove him from the Nairobi gubernatorial race on the grounds that his academic credentials are untrustworthy.
