The Mandela cow which President Uhuru Kenyatta handed to his Burundian Counterpart President Evariste Ndayishimiye has been delivered.Â
The gifting ceremony, which took place in Kisumu on May 31, 2021 meant Kenya will play its part in boosting Burundi’s livestock sector.
Burundi received the Mandela cow, together with 50 high-yielding dairy heifers.
The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives Hon. Peter Munya delivered the President’s donation to the Government of Burundi on February 3, 2022.
Other donations included: 20,000 Vaccine doses of Quodivolent against Foot and Mouth Disease; 1.3 Metric tonnes consisting of Maize, Wheat and Rhodes grass seeds; 1000 pieces of Tsetse traps; and 4000 straws of semen.
The donations were formally handed over to the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment of Burundi at a function held at Bugendana in Gitega Province.
During the State Visit in May 2021, Kenya and Burundi signed several agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two East African nations.
