Uhuru Kenyatta’s Allies Kicked Out in Various Parastatals

In a Gazette notice dated February 24, the Head of State appointed former Sylvanus Maritim as the non-executive chairperson of the Information and Communications Technology Authority

President William Ruto has persisted in his cleansing of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies in various parastatals in an effort to restructure the government with people who understand his objectives.

In a Gazette notice dated February 24, the Head of State appointed former Sylvanus Maritim as the non-executive chairperson of the Information and Communications Technology Authority for a three-year term, suspending Prof Fredrick Owino’s appointment.

During the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations in April 2022, Mr. Maritim lost to Benjamin Lang’at.

Dr. Ruto has also overturned Wanjiku Wakogi’s appointment as Secretary State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC), with Muyumba Simmon Indimuli taking over for a three-year term.

Ms. Wakogi was appointed to the technical committee, the second tier of the presidential task force tasked with establishing a National Lottery to oversee structures and systems in the country’s gaming industry, last week.

Dr. Ruto has also made changes at the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), dismissing Nick Nesbitt, who was appointed by Mr. Kenyatta to replace Ugas Mohamed as chairperson.

The CMA has also gotten new board members with the exit of John Kipkosgei Birech, Freshia Mugo Waweru, Mark Bichachi, Eli Kamau, and Peter Mungai. They have been replaced by Natasha Awuor Aduwo,

Elena Natalia Pellegrini, Meshack Moses Kiprono, Gibson Kimani Maina, and Michael Bowen.

Noticeable in the latest State appointments is the chairperson of the Talai Council of Elders, Reverend James Bassy, who led Dr. Ruto’s coronation as the political kingpin of Kalenjins instead of Kanu chairman Gideon Moi. There is also John Seii, former chairperson of the Myoot Council of Elders.
