Uhuru allows opening of select hotels

President Uhuru Kenyatta has said selected restaurants will be allowed to reopen operations on condition that their employees are tested and if high standards of hygiene are maintainedBy Prudence Wanza

Kenyatta says this will be determined by the advice of the National Emergency Response Committee and health professionals.

He however warned that restaurants that fail to comply with safety conditions will be closed and their owners prosecuted.

The President said donors have promised to inject billions into the economy to aid the country’s fight against the Corona Virus.

The President said the Government will on Wednesday roll out a National Hygiene Program that will create employment of over 100,000 youths to provide sanitation services.

He said initially, 27000 youth will be employed, as a way to cushion them from the effects of the virus.

He however extended the curfew in Nairobi and the Coast for further 21 days as a way of reducing the infections.

“The Cessation of movement into and out of the Nairobi Metropolitan area and the counties of Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa that are currently in force shall be extended for a further containment period of 21 days…the Nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew that is currently in force shall also be extended for a further period of 21 days.” The President said

The President warned that those flouting his directives will be dealt with ruthlessly and urged Kenyans to comply.

Uhuru said he will immediately remove the restrictions, if the health officials advise him the situation has been controlled.

In the last 24 hours Kenya has recorded 7 new positive cases raising the tally to 343. 3 more patients have also recovered bringing the total number of recoveries to 98.

The total number of deaths remain at 14.
